Escaped inmate is in custody following extensive search

Authorities say they have caught an inmate who got away from the St. Louis County Jail in Hibbing after leaving for a medical appointment on Thursday. A statement from the jail says that Laron Lyndell Brown told workers that he was having chest pains. He was taken to Fairview Range Medical Center to be checked out.

When doctors told Brown he was okay to go back to jail, he ran away from the St. Louis County deputy who was watching over him. The sheriff’s office says Brown was found in the Hibbing area at 10:30 a.m. Friday, after a long search.

People in charge say Brown was being held on $100,000 bail for a felony domestic attack by strangulation charge. More charges of Escape from Custody are still being considered.

The Minnesota State Patrol, the Hibbing Police Department, the Eveleth and Chisholm Police Departments, and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office all helped with the search.
